|DARPA SMART Scholarship deadline Dec 1|
SMART stands for Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation. The SMART scholarshp program is a nationwide program run by the Defense Department, open to everyone. But DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, has reserved 5 SMART slots specifically for ARTSI students.
SMART is a scholarship-for-service program. Students apply and are matched with a government defense lab doing work in their area, e.g., robotics or computer science in our case. They receive up to 5 years of funding (tuition plus stipend), plus paid summer internships in their sponsoring labs. After graduation, they join the lab as a civilian employee and work there for as many years as they were supported in school. SMART will pay for completing an undergraduate education as well as for MS or PhD degrees.
The application deadline is December 1, and students need to take the GREs by mid-November in order for their application materials to be complete in time for the selection process.
